Primary School
Your child will read with a teacher at least once a week, therefore it is very important that your child brings their reading bag to school everyday.
Your child will bring their reading book home along with their reading record, words to learn and a library book.
Please see below for the presentation from the Reception Reading Meeting.
Tips for reading with your child
Look at the pictures and discuss what is happening in the story.
Encourage your child to predict what will happen in the story.
Encourage your child to sound out words they are unsure about.
Point to the words as you read together.
Encourage your child to find red words (words we learn from sight that we cannot sound out, e.g. the, was and my).
Practise the key words with your child and if you find they are struggling with certain words, you can always cut them out and turn them into flashcards.
