Choir at M&S - spreading our Christmas joy with the community

What another amazing morning we had! 29 children in choir went to sing their repertoire at Marks and Spencer’s and what a fabulous time they had.

On the way out, a lady stopped me to say that she was shopping with her mum and they both stopped to listen. She said the children were all amazing and sang so beautifully. She said they were a credit to school and she wished them all a merry Christmas. The lady said how hard she could see we had worked and said it was so wonderful people were able to hear our repertoire.

I can only ever echo what the lady had said and I know the choir have rehearsed on a lunchtime for the last few months, giving up their own time to learn the songs and parts. They are a credit to our school and I am immensely proud of each and every one of them. They have grown together as a choir and shown great commitment and effort at each practise. A thank you must also go to the grown ups who have supported the children throughout the festivities...we are developing a little fan club of our own so it’s great you are able to be there!

The fabulous choir welcoming people to the bustling Christmas Fair

The choir sang beautifully again this evening at the school fair. They are becoming such confident performers and it’s been so lovely seeing them grow together as a group. It’s so nice to see their interest in music develop and they have made so much progress they have made over the last few weeks. Well done again everyone!

Mother’s Union Service Pudsey Parish Church

O’Come All Ye Faithful

Another special performance today in Pudsey Parish Church to join in with the Mother’s Union advent service. It was wonderful to hear the children singing traditional songs like Away in a Manager, Starry Night and O’ Come All Ye Faithful. The children also joined in with other songs and two children proudly conducted a reading with confidence. It is so lovely to be invited to such events in the local community and Mrs Lock received so many lovely comments from the choir and congregation. They were so impressed by how the children sang, building tones and following instruction carefully. Well done to all the children!

Pudsey Lights Switch on

What a chilly evening it was! Our school choir were superb at the lights switch on and they sang 8 songs beautifully. It was so lovely to see so many of you from school who were there to support the choir. They have been rehearsing Monday and Thursday lunchtimes for such a long time and it is finally their chance to shine. Mrs Lock was very proud of them all and we have even been asked to showcase our singing next year.

Year 2 learning how to sing in a round

Year 2 wanted to include a song to promote recycling. They worked really hard and followed instructions well to perform their song not only as a whole year group, but then they split into parts to sing in a round. Great work year 2!

Power in Me

Mrs Lock took some year 4 children to Fulneck School to meet with other local schools to join together in choral rehearsals. The whole day was superb and after learning about the vocal chords, warming up and then rehearsing 5 new songs, they then performed them with confidence for parents, friends and family. It was so lovely to hear all the positive comments and praise for the children on their musical abilities and thank you to Fulneck for hosting such an amazing event.

KS1 listening intently

What an outstanding performance it was! The children in KS1 learnt all about the music vocabulary dynamics, pitch and tempo. Children know dynamics is when music is loud and quiet and the changes that happen in a piece of music. They also learnt about pitch being when they can hear or sing high/low notes and tempo is how fast/slow a piece of music is.

It was a superb experience and then children had the opportunity to explore these further in a workshop with the team.
