Primary School
Our topic this half-term is 'Evolution and Inheritance'. We will be studying how animals and plants have evolved on Earth and how they have become adapted to their environments. We will be learning how living things inherit qualities and traits from their ancestors and pass these on to their offspring
As part of the topic we are reading the novel 'Skellig' - one of the themes in the book is evolution - and the children are already loving it!
After the half-term break we will be learning how light travels and creates reflections, shadows and images in the eye. As part of the topic we will be visiting the Bradford Media Museum on the 19th June - costs are likely to be about £8.00 - this includes a visit to the IMAX cinema.
In PE we are continuing to practice our gym and athletics activities - and we'll be learning some cricket skills after half term.
In maths, as well as revising number skills, the four operations and work around fractions and decimals, we will be focusing on geometry - measuring and drawing angles; classifying shapes; measuring and converting units of measurement, and finding the perimeter and area of shapes.
In English we are learning about discussion texts; writing suspense stories; studying some classic poetry, and writing biographies and explanation texts.
Bradford Science and Media Museum
As part of our 'Seeing is Believing' topic, Year 5 visited the Bradford Science and Media Museum. We had a fantastic time watching the 3D film 'Beautiful Planet'; visited the fantastic new Wonderlab gallery, and enjoyed an amazing science workshop all about light. Everyone had a fantastic time, especially Mr White and Miss Kemp. Check out their funky moves below.
