If you suspect that a child or young person is being, or is at risk of being significantly harmed as a result of abuse or neglect, you must report this immediately by calling Children’s Social Work Services during office hours (9.00am – 5.00pm) on 0113 2224403.

If you think a child is immediate danger call the police on 999 out of office hours (evenings, weekends and bank holidays).

    Safeguarding

Safeguarding covers all aspects of keeping a child healthy and safe, e.g. first aid, educational visits, behaviour, racism, internet safety, security, medical needs.

We have rigorous procedures in place to ensure that all our children are as happy, healthy and safe as possible.

Child Protection is part of Safeguarding.

If anyone has any concerns in relation to child protection, please contact any member of the safeguarding team. If we receive information about a child from anyone, we always contact the parents of the child unless we feel that the child is at immediate risk. We aim to educate and empower children to increasingly take responsibility for their own health and safety.

     Domestic Violence

At Pudsey Waterloo we take part in the Operation Encompass program.

Operation Encompass is a police and education early information-sharing partnership enabling immediate support to children who have experienced domestic abuse.

At Pudsey Waterloo Mr Daniel White (Head of School and DSL) is our key adult for Operation Encompass. He will be notified about all police-attended incidents of domestic abuse before the start of the next school day. This allows our school staff to provide appropriate support and understanding to the child, helping them through any difficulties that may arise due to the situation and providing a supportive and nurturing environment for children by offering them a safe space to discuss their feelings and concerns, and ensuring they receive the necessary support to help them cope with any distress they may be experiencing.

    Advice for Children

If someone is hurting you, doing things to you that you don't like or are being mean to you then tell someone. You could tell your parents, your friends, any member of Pudsey Waterloo staff or a trusted adult. You should also speak out if you are worried about another child or adult. Remember each classroom also has a 'Worry box' which you can use.

If you don’t wish to speak to someone in school, you have other choices. Both ChildLine and the NSPCC are specially set up for children to ring or use their website.

    Prevent Duty:

    What is the Prevent Strategy?

The Prevent Strategy is a government strategy designed to stop people becoming terrorists or supporting terrorism in all its forms.

    The Prevent Duty

The Prevent duty requires all schools to "have due regard to the need to prevent people being drawn into terrorism", under the Counter-Terrorism and Security Act 2015. The duty covers all types of extremism, whether political, religious or ideological.

What does it mean for a school?

At Pudsey Waterloo Primary school we protect our pupils from the risk of radicalisation through our wider safeguarding duties and our duty to promote the spiritual, moral, social and cultural development of pupils. We do the following:

    • Promote the fundamental British values through the school’s curriculum.

    • Make sure that school is a safe space for pupils to discuss sensitive topics, including terrorism and extremism.

    • We have robust safeguarding procedures to identify children at risk.

    • We engage with the Leeds Local Authority risk assessment to determine the potential risk of individuals being drawn into terrorism in the local area.

    • We have measures in place to protect pupils from harmful online content, which includes appropriate filtering and monitoring systems.

    • Our staff receive training to help them identify pupils at risk, challenge extremist ideas, and know how to act if they have a concern.

    If you’re worried about someone

If you are worried that you or someone you know is being radicalised, the Leeds Prevent team can help. Their work is part of the Government’s Counterterrorism Strategy. You can call or email them, and then they will discuss your concerns with you. They will ask you why you think someone is at risk and decide how they can help. They may ask you to complete a referral form so that they can support the person you're worried about.

    Phone: 0113 535 0810 (Monday to Friday, 8am to 4pm)

    Email: prevent@leeds.gov.uk

You can also call the police Prevent team on 0113 241 3386 (Monday to Friday, 8am to 4pm).

If you're worried about a family member, friend or someone you know at risk, visit Act Early for help, support and advice on preventing radicalisation

You can also call the police at any time on 101, or 999 if it's an emergency.
