Primary School
We are going to use the skills we have already learnt about fact families to now include the subtraction facts as well as the addition ones (that we did before Christmas). You worked so hard at the addition facts, so hopefully you will manage this by watching the video and answering the questions. If you are finding it tricky just let us know and we will try to give more guidence.
Remember for addition -
Part + Part = Whole
Whole = Part + Part
For subtraction remember we need to take a part away from the whole to start with and that will equal the other part.
Whole - Part = Part
Part = Whole - Part
Please see the example below.
5 is the whole. One part is 3 and the other part is 2.
4 Addition facts 4 subtraction facts
2 + 3 = 5 5 - 3 = 2
3 + 2 = 5 5 - 2 = 3
5 = 2 + 3 2 = 5 - 3
5 = 3 + 2 3 = 5 - 2
Remember these last 2 facts is where a part starts the number sentence.
