Sports Premium at Pudsey Waterloo

At Pudsey Waterloo Primary, we firmly believe that Physical Education (PE) and sport are absolutely essential for the holistic development of our pupils. Through participation in a broad range of physical activities, children not only improve their physical health and fitness but also learn vital life skills and core values such as teamwork, respect, and resilience when facing competition, winning, or losing. The Government's Sport Premium funding is strategically invested to enhance the quality and breadth of our PE provision, ensuring it has a lasting, positive impact across the school.

We are focusing our Sport Premium funding on bringing in high-quality external expertise, which significantly boosts staff confidence and curriculum delivery. We utilise a local sports club, Two Touch Football, to deliver in-school sessions and a very popular after-school club, broadening our pupils' exposure to the sport. In addition, we benefit from coaching and invaluable teacher mentoring from staff associated with the Leeds Rhinos organisation, inspiring greater pupil enthusiasm for physical activity. Furthermore, our teachers receive dedicated mentoring and professional development from a specialist designated dance teacher, ensuring we maintain high-quality instruction and curriculum breadth in this vital area of movement education.

The funding also supports a wide range of inter-school sporting events, giving pupils opportunities to apply their skills in competitive and festival settings. A key focus is on inclusion: we host after-school competitions and festivals across a wide range of sports that are specifically designed to encourage participation among pupils who don't typically engage in sporting activities outside of school. This approach breaks down barriers to participation, ensuring all pupils, regardless of experience or aptitude, can enjoy the benefits of team sport and competition. Finally, the premium is used for investing in new equipment, resources, and subsidising transport so children can attend external sporting events, ensuring the impact of the funding is sustained for years to come.

The P.E. team at Pudsey Waterloo Primary regularly monitors and assesses the impact of the Sport Premium on children’s fitness levels, the quality of PE sessions, and their overall level of participation in sporting activities, ensuring continuous improvement across the school.
